What is the Wimborne and Colehill Fireworks evening?

2012 sees the ninth annual Bonfire and Fireworks Evening - an hugely successful annual event that has grown larger and larger each year as word of its popularity has spread.

All the profits from the event are donated back to the school which, in turn, uses the money for things like the upkeep of the swimming pool which is enjoyed by so many people in the Colehill area, both students and local residents. It also helps fund the new Community Sports Hall that is, again, used by local students and residents.

With ticket prices amongst the lowest in the County, we aim to offer a fun-filled evening that is within a family budget, unlike some events that may simply be maximising the profits for the organising company.

Now hailed as Dorset's Longest Fireworks Display, the fireworks team set off an astonishing 15,000+ effects in a coordinated spectacle of colour and effect.

The event draws more and more visitors; a testament to building on a good event foundation, year on year.

What time do the fireworks start? Back

The gates open at 4.30pm and the bonfire will be lit at 6:00pm. The fireworks display will start at 7:00pm.

Is the event 'family orientated'? Back

Absolutely! The event has earned a good reputation of being one of the best family events in the local event calendar with a strict emphasis on ensuring that it is geared towards family members of all ages, hence the more family-friendly opening times.

The Sparkler Zone is also gaining a fun reputation amongst the local toddlers!

Security Back

Professional security personnel (licensed by SIA) help in ensuring that the event is well managed, hence why it enjoys an enviable reputation for a welcoming, safe and enjoyable evening for all.

Comfort Back

The fireworks display is also designed to avoid constant 'noise' effects that smaller children and older family members may find uncomfortable, such as air-bombs or ack-acks effects.

The display is designed more for awe-inspiring colour and jaw-dropping effects.

What activities are there? Back

Catering Services
For 2012, we are pleased to welcome back the Licensed Bar.

There are Professional Catering outlets available where you can buy refreshments and a variety of different hot food products.

For 2012, we have increased both the number of caterers and the variety of food available. A hog roast and fish and chips stall will be available, in addition to a greater number other catering providers.

All caterers are licensed by the authorities and are holders of the requisite hygiene and food preparation certification.

All catering suppliers are bound by the event organiser's strict policy of ensuring that all products offered for sale are priced at a family-affordable level whilst maintaining high quality standards. In fact, we can even set the prices, if we wish - however, the catering teams involved are sensitive to budgets and cooperate fully with our direction to ensure reasonable prices!

Glow Products and Novelties
A wide selection of British Standards approved glow products are available inside the grounds and are priced at way below normal retail pricing. The profits from all these sales are donated back to the overall good causes fund.

We encourage visitors NOT to purchase glow products from pedlars and sellers outside the event grounds.  These pedlars are neither authorised by the organisers nor contribute any of their profits back to this charity event. More importantly, we cannot guarantee that products sold outside the grounds by pedlars adhere to product safety standards, as required by Trading Standards and HM Customs Import Regulations.

For your own peace of mind and consumer safety, thank you for cooperating with this request.

Bouncy Castle, Trampolines, air slides and fun fair mini roundabouts and other Family Entertainment
Following on form the demand for these in previous years, we have increased the number of activities for children to enjoy. We hope the kids don't get too tired!

Sparkler Zone
The ever-popular 'Sparkler Zone' is back, where parents can buy British Standard approved sparklers for their children. Children must be supervised by their parent or guardian and be wearing gloves.

Spectators may NOT bring their own sparklers to the event. All sparklers will be sold at well below retail prices - less than half supermarket prices - so you will not benefit from buying your own and bringing them with you.

Guy Competition
There is always an annual Guy Competition, so feel free to bring your Guy with you where they will all be judged before being consigned to the flaming pyre.

Can I buy tickets on the gate? Back

Any remaining tickets - not sold via the pre-booking facility - will be sold on the day.

However, the advance purchase discount will no longer apply and all tickets will attract a £1.00 supplement.

Note: The Family/Group ticket package can only be bought in advance - these are not available on the gate.

Where can I buy tickets? Back

Tickets can be purchased from the reception of St Michael's Middle School between 8.30am and 9.30am in the mornings, and from between 3.30pm and 4.30pm in the afternoons.

Alternatively, tickets will be available from sellers at the school grounds during Saturday 3rd November from around 12 noon.

Tickets can also be purchased from the Wimborne Tourist Information Centre in the town Square during their normal opening hours.

Can children attend without an adult? Back

Children under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult or they will not be admitted at the gate.

Where can I park? Back

New for 2012 - we have a Park and Ride scheme operating from the Wimborne Market car park in New Borough and Station Road.

The cost is £2 per car, and buses run every 10 minutes between the car park and the Event site.

Adults only £1.50 return, Children 75p return, or family (2+3) return for just £3.50. Toddlers travel free.

Look out for the 88a Special Service. Last bus leaves the venue at 9.00pm.

Many people from Wimborne and Colehill usually walk as it is very local to the village centre. However, if you do come by car, then it advisable to use our new Park and Ride service from the Wimborne Market car park (800 spaces). If you do park in the surrounding roads, then you must show consideration for residents and other road users and park responsibly. The event organisers attach no liability if you are the subject of an enforcement notice or Police parking ticket if you fail to uphold the Highway Code or are deemed to have caused an obstruction.

Can I bring my own fireworks? Back

Absolutely NOT, under any circumstances - we have enough professionally-organised ones. It is illegal to bring fireworks to a public event, or have them in your possession in public, let alone set them off.

Security staff will be present at the event, and anyone reported for nuisance behaviour will be ejected from the event and may be liable to Police action.
